In fact, this is one of the parts (culmination) Buddhist meditation technique: the initial stage is samatha, whose purpose - to calm the mind and release itfrom unnecessary thoughts, and the second - Vipassana, which aims to develop clarity of insight (translated from Sanskrit - « higher vision »).
