Taras Shevchenko poem Dumka

Translation of the article Dumka

Dumka

Violent wind, violent wind!
You're talking with the sea.
Wake him up, play with it,
Ask the blue sea.
It knows where my darling,
 Because it bores him,
And the sea will say
Where has he gone.
If my dear drowned -
Break the blue sea;
I'm going to look for my lovely,
I will drown my sorrow,
drown my bad fate,
I will become a mermaid,
Look in the black waves,
Sink on the bottom of the sea.
Find him, lean,
Faint at his heart.
Then, wave, bring me with my lovely,
Where the wind blows!
If my dear on the other side
Violent, you knows,
Where he goes, what he does
You talk to him.
When he is crying - and I cry too,
If he doesn't - I sing;
If the black-browed died.
And I'm dying too.
Then bring my soul
There where my darling;
Put me as a red snowball
On my darling's grave,
It will be easier for orphan
Lying in the foreign field
There will be his lovely over him
Stand as a flower.
And as a flower, and as a snowball
Flourish above him
To avoid roasted alien sun,
Do not trample people.
I burnt down in the evening,
And cry in the morning.
The sun will rise - i will wipe the tears
No one will see.
Violent wind, violent wind!
You're talking with the sea.
Wake him up, play with it,
Ask the blue sea...
